Paleomagnetic Results from Western Anatolia: Evidence of Microblock Rotations after Emplacement of the Lower Miocene Yuntdağ Volcanic Rocks

چکیده

The eastern Aegean region has undergone north dipping subduction in the Oligocene, continental collision and then Miocene-Pliocene extension, which is associated with widespread Miocene volcanism. aim of this study to assess possibility block rotations due stress variations Dikili (İzmir) province, Western Anatolia, based on paleomagnetic data obtained from 35 independent sites addition results 19 earlier studies. lower Yuntdağ volcanic rocks were emplaced three different structural blocks, Dikili, Zeytindağ Bergama blocks. Clockwise rotation found blocks that varies R (± DR) = 12.5° 7.4°) west 35.6°± (13.2°) east, respectively. In contrast, a counterclockwise =-38.1° 6.4°) resulted block, A scissor-like basin evolution suggested during opening Bakırçay graben led clockwise after present. pattern derived demonstrates localized small scale deformation besides regional affects must be considered as part matrix area.

Discordant paleomagnetic direction in Miocene rocks from the central Tarim Basin: evidence for local deformation and inclination shallowing

From exposures at the southeastern end of the Maza Tagh range in the central Tarim Basin (latitude: 38.5‡N; longitude: 80.5‡E), 55 paleomagnetic sites were collected from red mudstones and sandstones of the Miocene Wuqia Formation. Thermal demagnetization revealed a high unblocking temperature characteristic remanent magnetization (ChRM). Five sites collected across a kink fold yield a positive...

Steams, C. and Van der Voo, R., 1987. Paleomagnetic results from the Lower Devonian Llandstadwell Formation, Dyfed, Wales. Tectonophysics, 143: 329-334. A paleomagnetic investigation of the Lower Devonian Llandstadwell Eormation in southwest Wales has yielded a characteristic direction (declination = 196’. inclination = 5’) that passes a fold test. Comparison of the corresponding virtual geomag...

Contrasting origins of Cenozoic silicic volcanic rocks from the western Cordillera of the United States

Two fundamentally different types of silicic volcanic rocks formed during the Cenozoic of the western Cordillera of the United States. Large volumes of dacite and rhyolite, mostly ignimbrites, erupted in the Oligocene in what is now the Great Basin and contrast with rhyolites erupted along the Snake River Plain during the Late Cenozoic. The Great Basin dacites and rhyolites are generally calc-a...
